The speed of mobile internet is increasing with the advancement of technology all over the world. Following this, the speed of global mobile internet has increased by 59.5% in the last one year. In the same period, the speed of mobile internet in Bangladesh increased by 15.38% which is about one-fourth of the global average.
This figure has emerged in a recently published report by Okla, an organization that works with the speed and comparative picture of the Internet.
According to the data presented in the index, the average download speed of mobile internet in the world in July 2020 was 34.52 megabytes per second (Mbps). In July this year, it has increased to 55.06 Mbps. And the average download speed of mobile internet in Bangladesh in July last year was 10.92 Mbps. In a span of a year it has been 12.6 Mbps.
Although the average of Bangladesh is worse than the global average in mobile internet, it is ahead in the rate of increasing the speed of broadband connection. Compared to July last year, the speed of broadband connectivity in the world has increased by an average of 31.87% in July this year. In Bangladesh alone, the growth rate is 42.59%.
Bangladesh was ranked 135th in July as well as in June on the Okla Mobile Internet Speed Index. However, the June report ranked 135th out of 138 countries, and 135th out of 139 countries in July.
