The Law and Life Foundation, a human rights organization, on Thursday (June 24th), petitioned to the relevant branch of the High Court seeking directions to ban all types of online games and apps such as Tiktok, Bigo Live, PUBG, Free Fire and Likee from the country’s online platform.
Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab and Mohammad Kausar, two Supreme Court lawyers, filed the writ petition in the public interest, pointing out the harmful aspects of the games and apps on behalf of the organization.
In the writ petition, the postal and telecommunications secretary, BTRC chairman, education secretary, home secretary, law ministry secretary, health secretary, inspector general of police (DG), Bangladesh Bank, mobile operator, bKash and Nagad have been named as defendants.
Earlier on June 19, a legal notice was sent seeking redressal. This writ has been filed today as no action has been taken after receiving the notice.
According to the writ petition, the young teenagers and children of Bangladesh have become addicted to games like PUBG and Free Fire. As a result, social values, education, culture are being destroyed and future generations are becoming incompetent. These games are pushing the youth towards violence.
