Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General of National Museum of Science and Technology-NMST, urged the parents to keep students engaged with books before they become addicted to smartphones. He said, ‘Students are getting detached from books and getting addicted to mobile phones, students are wasting precious time of life by abusing smart phones. Parents as well as teachers should be careful about this matter.’
He made this call in the memorial speech of Master Ruhul Amin Chowdhury at Hazrat Yasin Shah High School and College in Raujan, Chattogram on Friday (21 July 2023).
The Director General said, “Teachers must have strict devotion, honesty and discipline in their duties and conduct. As these qualities are gradually decreasing, the status of teachers is decreasing in the society. Teaching is not just a job, it is a noble profession. It is very common to see the teaching profession as commercial. A teacher is not just a teacher in an educational institution, he is a lifelong guide for a student. The tendency to impart knowledge by memorizing a load of books should be avoided. Before taking the class, the teachers should make adequate preparation and make the study enjoyable. Every educational institution must have green fields, open spaces and sports facilities.
“Students should be motivated in such a way that they wake up early in the morning, pray regularly and practice true devotional life,” he added.
In this context, the Director General of National Museum of Science and Technology, Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, mentioning that ‘ Some teachers are not appearing in class on time, which is a big crime’, he highlighted the biography of his grandfather Master Ruhul Amin Chowdhury, a famous teacher of Chattogram and said, “He served as a judge as a member of the jury board for 36 years and as a member of the union board as a public representative. Master Ruhul Amin was not only a teacher but also a social worker, social reformer and social organizer. He is still remembered, living in a mud house, in a very simple manner.’
He urged the teachers to follow the example of such a devoted man. He said that teachers can not earn respect by force, if there is honesty and devotion, teachers will definitely deserve respect from everyone. It is the moral duty of a teacher not only to teach books, but to understand the emotions and feelings of a student and to develop his behavior and change his character.
Mohammad Munir Chowdhury urged people from all walks of life including teachers to follow religious rules to create a corruption free society. He said, ‘Every activity of a person’s life is being recorded on the radar of Almighty Allah all the time and after death everyone has to suffer the consequences of his deeds. People will one day become residents of the grave after losing all their titles, wealth and nobility. There he has to suffer the punishment or reward of every good and bad deed he has done, if he realizes this by heart, man can commit no sin”.
