Software giant Microsoft is developing artificial intelligence-based chips. Codenamed ‘Athena’, this chip will provide technical support to AI chatbots like ChatGPT. The news agency Reuters reported this news citing reliable sources.
Microsoft is an early partner of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Microsoft has been working with this chip since 2019. Meanwhile, a small number of employees at Microsoft and OpenAI are said to be using the chip experimentally.
Microsoft expects the new chip to perform better than chips bought from other vendors. The software giant hopes this will save time and money on expensive AI initiatives.
It may be noted that other big tech companies like Amazon and Google have developed their own chips for AI. Chip design company NVidia dominates the market for such chips.
