The ‘Walton Open 12th National Services (Men & Women) Wrestling Competition – 2024’ has started from Sunday, February 18 at the Sheikh Russell Roller Skating Complex under the auspices of Walton High-Tech Industries PLC and the management of Bangladesh Amateur Wrestling Federation.
Rabiul Islam Milton, the senior deputy executive director of the sponsoring organization Walton High-Tech, was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the competition. Walton’s senior deputy operative director Mehrab Hossain Asif, joint editor of Bangladesh Amateur Wrestling Federation Mesbah Uddin Azad and others were present at that time.
A total of four gold medals have been awarded in the women’s category till the writing of this report on the opening day of the competition. Bangladesh Ansar won three of those while Bangladesh Army won the other.
Army’s Preeti Rani Das won gold in the women’s 50 kg weight category. Smriti Akhtar won silver in this category. Meem from Ansar won the gold in the 53 kg weight category. Farhana Faya of Army won silver. Swapna of Ansar won gold in 55 kg weight category. And Rimi of Army won the silver. Ansar’s Rupali Akhter won the gold in the 57 kg weight category. And Army’s Sumaiya Akhtar Shimu won a silver.
Hundreds of female and male wrestlers participated in this competition for Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and TITAS.
Competition is being held in total 20 weight classes, 10 each in both male and female categories. Men’s weight categories are 57 kg, 61 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 79 kg, 86 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg.
Women’s weight categories are – 50 kg, 53 kg, 55 kg, 57 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 72 kg and 76 kg.
Champions and runners-up teams (both male and female) will receive trophies. Apart from this, the best players (male and female) of the competition will be given a crest and prize money.
