In October last year, Hamas attacked the ‘nobility’ of the Iron Dome, a symbol of Israeli military prowess. The apartheid country, the most densely populated in the Middle East, launched C-Dome, the naval version of Iron Dome, with that wound on its chest. The country’s military said on Tuesday it would work equally to counter missile and rocket attacks.
The C-Dome system intercepted a suspicious flying object that entered the airspace of the southern Israeli city of Eilat on Monday, April 8, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. There were no casualties.
The IDF said in a statement released Tuesday morning, ‘following sirens sounded in the Eilat area about an enemy aircraft incursion. The IDF Navy has detected a suspicious aircraft crossing over Israeli territory.’
However, they did not clarify whether the flying object was a drone or not. This was the first operational use of C-Dome since deployment.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired missiles at the city of Israel last February.
According to the Israeli arms manufacturer Rafael, this air defense system has been installed on the German-made Sar-6 class corvette. The interceptor used by C-Dome is similar to that of Iron Dome.
Iron Dome destroyed numerous rockets fired by Hamas. This system costs $50,000 per use.
