China has issued new guidelines on the use of processors from US chip companies such as AMD and Intel in government computers and servers. The guidelines issued by Beijing also include instructions to use local products instead of Microsoft’s Windows operating system and database software made abroad.
According to the directive issued by the Chinese government, from now on, various government agencies in China must use safe and reliable local products instead of AMD and Intel chips. The guide also provides a list of which chips can be used. There are 18 processors in this list. These include chips made by Huawei and China’s state-owned Phytium. Note that both companies are banned in the United States.
It is learned that this directive was sent on December 26 last year. It has been implemented recently.
A statement issued by China’s Ministry of Industry last December listed three separate CPUs, operating systems and centralized databases. They were said to be safe and reliable for up to three years from the date of publication. They are all made in China. Guidelines were issued to use these instead of US products.
It is reported that since the ban, China’s semiconductor industry has started to reduce its dependence on foreign technology.
