After coming under the ownership of Elon Musk, social media X (formerly Twitter) is taking various steps to balance income and expenses. Following this, an initiative has been taken to sell unused account handles (user names). News Reuters.
A group of X insiders reportedly created a marketplace to sell unused handles. In several cases, these handles have been emailed to buyers offering prices of up to $50,000.
On December 9 of last year, Elon Musk announced that the user names of 1.5 billion accounts will be cleared soon. From the month of May, the emptying of these accounts, which have been unused for several years, started.
However, selling handles is against Twitter policy. X’s website states that it is prohibited for sale until the time of publication of the report. Transactions of any kind in exchange for username may result in permanent account termination.
