Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the current president of the D-8 alliance, emphasized four issues, including harnessing the potential of information technology. At the same time, she emphasized increasing the mutual cooperation among the alliance leaders in the field of information technology to meet the challenges ahead.
The Prime Minister participated virtually from Ganobhaban on the last day of the four-day-long tenth D-8 Summit.
Leaders from Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey attended the virtual conference.
The PM of Bangladesh emphasized Utilizing youth power through developing their skills, making full use of IT potential, creating necessary legal, institutional and infrastructural infrastructure; enhancing connectivity and increasing mutual cooperation to increase trade and commerce among the member countries.
Accentuating trade and commerce, youth development among the member countries, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that youth are playing an important role in business ideas, models, innovation and technology.
The theme of this year’s D-8 conference is “Partnership for a Transformative World: Harnessing the Power of Youth and Technology”. In her concluding remarks, the Prime Minister noted that over the past decade, Bangladesh has highlighted information technology and transformed it into a digital Bangladesh.
Highlighting increasing cooperation in the field of information technology, the Prime Minister said, “We need effective partnership and greater cooperation in the field of information technology and innovation to meet the challenges.”
Participating in the D-8 summit, the heads of government, including President Abdul Fattah Sisi of Egypt, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, President Hassan Rouhani of Iran, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of Malaysia, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey delivered their speeches.
