Information Technology Adviser to the Prime Minister, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, informed that Bangladesh is trying to introduce 5G mobile phone technology by this year. He said, ‘the infrastructure of Bangladesh is better than many neighboring countries. We are looking at launching 5G. I will try to launch 5-G this year. ‘
He made these remarks at the virtual opening ceremony of the US-Bangladesh Business Council on Tuesday.
“We are looking at creating entrepreneurs,” he said, adding that 70,000 technical graduates are coming out every year in Bangladesh. I am also looking at creating start-ups in Bangladesh.
IT entrepreneurs are growing rapidly in the country and some start-up companies in Bangladesh, such as Pathao or bKash, are recognized worldwide, he said.
“Even eight to 10 years ago, no one thought our start-up companies would be worth1 billion,” said the prime minister’s IT adviser. But this is just the beginning. Companies like WeChat or Alibaba will be formed in Bangladesh and venture capital companies have ample opportunity to invest here.
He said that almost all the electronics products used by low and middle-income people are made in Bangladesh.
The Council was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina while US State Department Ambassador for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, US Ambassador Earl R Miller and Bangladesh Ambassador for US Shahidul Islam were present at this virtual session.
