On the occasion of the election of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) for the 2024-26 term of the country’s software and information technology service sector organization, an introduction meeting of 33 candidates for 11 posts of the executive committee was held at IDEB auditorium at Kakrail in Dhaka on Monday in the evening. The candidates of the three panels presented their introductions and spoke for them through lottery in the meeting chaired by TIM Nurul Kabir, chairman of BASIS’s election board.
Meanwhile, the other two members of the election board are Syed Mamnoor Quader and Nazim Farhan Chowdhury. Election Appeal Board Chairman A Tauhid and two members Abdullah H Kafi and Nazneen Kamal were also present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the candidates who participated in the three panels talked about ensuring the role of BASIS member institutions in the process of building Smart Bangladesh. Everyone had a ‘smart’ dream in their promise. Candidates from three panels – ‘Team Smart’ and ‘One Team’ appeared on the stage wearing their own branding T-shirts. And the ‘Team Success’ candidates were in their favorite clothes.
In this introductory meeting organized by the selection board of BASIS, the team leader of the ‘Team Smart’ panel, Advanced ERP Md. Mostafizur Rahman outlined plans to have a sub-office of BASIS in Gulshan or Banani. He said, ‘Bangladesh should be branded abroad. If we are elected, we want to build a smart Bangladesh with all the members of BASIS.
Other candidates of Team Smart include General Member Mohammad Risalat Siddiqui, Liaquat Hussain, Mir Shahrukh Islam, ASM Rafiq Ullah, Manjurul Alam, Syeda Naushad Jahan, Niaz Morshed and Arman Ahmed Khan (Associate), Lutfi Haider Chowdhury (Affiliate) and AHM Hasinul Quddus (International) was present on stage.
Then Russell T Ahmed, the current president of BASIS, who heads the ‘One Team’ panel, said, ‘Smart Bangladesh and Digital Bangladesh have been branded for the members of BASIS. Experience is required and everyone on our panel is experienced. It is possible to take BASIS forward by utilizing their experience.’
The other candidates of this panel are – Uttam Kumar Pal, Didarul Alam, Rashidul Hasan, AKM Ahmedul Islam, Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan, M Asif Rahman, KAM Rashedul Majid and Syed Abdullah Zayed (Associate), Biplab Ghosh (Associate) Affiliate) and Syed Mohammad Kamal (International).
Finally, Flora Telecom’s Mustafa Rafiqul Islam, who is leading the ‘Team Success’ panel, expressed the intention to bring about major changes in the constitution of BASIS besides building a permanent address for BASIS. He said, our aim is to increase the number of members of the current 11-member executive committee to 21. Out of this we want to keep four reserved posts, where two posts will be for women entrepreneurs.
Candidates from general member category of Team Success Taufiqul Karim, Mohammad Aminullah, Md. Sahibur Rahman Khan, Farzana Kabir, Md. Shafiul Alam, Imran Hossain, Syeda Nafisa Reza and NM Rafsan Jani (Associate), Abdul Aziz (Affiliate) and Abu Muhammad Rashed Majid (International) were present in the meeting.
T I M Nurul Kabir, Chairman of BASIS Election Executive Board, delivered the welcome speech at the program. In his speech, he discussed about the code of conduct for BASIS elections and discussed various issues related to casting votes by displaying demo ballot papers. At one stage, he organized the panel based candidate familiarization meeting through lottery.
A total of 33 candidates are contesting in the BASIS Executive Committee elections. The election will be held on May 8. Total membership of BASIS is 2,401. However,1 thousand 464 members have become voters in this election. Among them, 932 are ordinary, 389 as associates, 134 affiliates and 9 voters in the international membership category.
Voting for BASIS election will continue on May 8 from 10 am to 5 pm at Gulshan Shooting Club in the capital.
