Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) signed a strategic partnership agreement on Tuesday to accelerate Internet governance activities in Bangladesh and accelerate preparations for the Global Digital Compact and Summit of the Future 2024.
The agreement held at the BTRC headquarters in Agargaon of the capital was signed by BIGF Secretary General Mohammad Abdul Haque and BTRC Director General of Systems and Services Lt. Col. SM Rezaur Rahman.
BTRC Chairman Engineer Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed presided over the event while the Vice-Chairman of the organization Md. Aminul Haque; Commissioner Engineer Sheikh Riaz Ahmed; Dr. Mushfiq Mannan Chowdhury; Md. Delwar Hossain; Director General Brigadier General Mohammad Khalil-ur-Rahman and senior officials were also present.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) Chairperson Hasanul Haque Inu (former MP and Minister), Vice-Chairperson AHM Bajlur Rahman and Policy Research Fellow of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum Hiren Pandit were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, engineer on the agreement said, BRTC has been providing various types of support to BIGF for the last few years and signing this MoU will further strengthen our initiative.
Hasanul Haque Inu said that the signing of this MoU will create more opportunities for future summits and digital compact implementation and large-scale work with BTRC.
Informed at the event, the MoU will deal with structural and development with eleven key focuses. These are – working collaboratively to implement IGF initiatives in Bangladesh; Working together for digital inclusion and connectivity so that all people, including all schools, can connect to the Internet; and ensuring internet governance to avoid internet fragmentation, mechanisms for data protection, data sharing and protecting data privacy, promoting data innovation, open data, big data and data-driven decision-making for the public good, upholding human rights online, ensuring digital to do Preventing discrimination and curbing the spread of misleading content, prioritizing the regulation of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, promoting all digital subjects (commons) as global commons, technology and security to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other national and international progress. Assist in the implementation of development plans and preparations for the Global Digital Compact and the UN Summit of the Future 2024.
