In 18 Hi-tech parks, private investment amounts 2,150 crore taka; Teletalk network will be further expanded
The first meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National Parliament on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology will be held on March 3. Standing Committee president Kazi Nabil Ahmed will preside over the meeting to be held on the second floor of the west block of Sangsad Bhaban at 11 am that day. Deputy Whip Nazrul Islam Babu, Members of Parliament Kabirul Haque, Abul Kalam Azad (Rajshahi), Mahbubur Rahman, Nahid Nigar, Abu Saleh Md. Nazmul Haque and Siddiqul Alam will be present as members of the committee.
In the meeting, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak will present a full report on the plan to create Smart Bangladesh. At the same time, he will present all the laws, rules and guidelines under the ministry and shed light on their amendments and new laws. After analyzing the income and expenditure statements of the service and business institutions under the ministry for the last 5 financial years, the necessary steps will be discussed in the meeting. A special demonstration will be presented on Government Artificial Intelligence GBrain.
On Wednesday night, State Minister Palak held a preparatory discussion meeting with the concerned people. Senior officers of the concerned institutions were present in the meeting which was held virtually. Among them, BTRC Commissioner Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Postal Directorate Md. Rafiqul Islam, Postal Director General Tarun Kanti Sikdar, A2I Project Director Md. Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Startup Bangladesh Managing Director Sami Ahmed, Teletalk Managing Director AKM Habibur Rahman, Hi-tech Park Authority Managing Director GSM Zafarullah was also connected to the meeting online.
Meanwhile, in response to the question of Independent Member of Parliament ABM Anisuzzaman in Wednesday’s Parliament session, ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that 192 local and foreign companies have started business activities in 18 parks operated by the government. Till now about 2 thousand 150 crores investment has been made from the private sector.
In response to a question raised by Jatiya Party member ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar in the Jatiya Sangsad, the state minister also said that the number of BTS site towers of the government mobile company Teletalk Bangladesh Limited is less than that of other private mobile operators. That’s why Teletalk’s network is not as available as other mobile operators.
He said, under this initiative, the work of setting up 3000 new BTS sites (towers) is being implemented under the project ‘Teletalk network expansion at village level and network modernization in providing 5G services’.
Palak said that the work of setting up 420 new BTS sites (towers) through financial social responsibility fund is going on in Chattogram’s remote hilly areas, Haor and other coastal and island areas.
He said that in addition to this, under the 4G mobile network service, around two thousand BTS sites (towers) will be constructed at the union level.
