The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has given a set of recommendations to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to develop it as a ‘Smart Ministry’. These proposals were presented in a discussion meeting held at the Meeting Room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Monday.
The state minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak highlighted the “Healthy Environment, Smart Bangladesh” and emphasized on the use of innovative technology. The meeting presided over by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury. Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Division Md. Shamsul Arefin, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Farhina Ahmed were present at that time.
Discussions included environmental complaint/grievance redressal system portal, online time sensitive weekly/monthly workplan monitoring system to monitor the activities of branch officers, online monitoring of projects output/dashboard for projects monitoring, e-library and e-HRMS for project monitoring at ministry level. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has sought technical and technology innovation support from Access to Innovate-A2I under the ICT Division. It will also work on ‘archiving system, capacity building and database on forest land cases’ to preserve old hard files.
According to the sources of the meeting, ETP monitoring by installing AI-based IP cameras in industrial establishments, installation of monitoring trackers in permit issuance and renewal, creation of web-based software for real-time input of information of the Environment Department’s library and mobile court management will create an area of collaboration with the Environment Department. D-Documents will be introduced at the field level of the Forest Department. The modules of Bangladesh Forest Information System will be further enriched.
According to the sources, digital forest land management system, facilitation of sale, distribution and stocking of seedlings in nurseries, assistance in updating apps, introduction of apps/web-based system for access and location of sightseeing places under the department, modernization and enrichment of forest plantation monitoring system ‘Site Specific Plan’ and ICT Institutional capacity building has been given importance in the discussion. A2I will assist in the preparation of database of Bangladesh Rubber Board under the Ministry, staff monitoring system and geo database of rubber plantations.
