Telephone Shilpa Sangstha-TSS is a government owned telecoms company in Bangladesh. The State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has emphasized the importance of smart asset management to the organization to build smart TSS. For this reason, he advised TSS chief Ashraf Hossain to attract domestic and foreign private investment and make the best use of government facilities and collect rent from the 5 acres of land occupied by the Ministry of Sports and Youth. At the same time, he drew the attention of GSM Zafar Ullah, Managing Director of the organization present at the event to declare TSS as a hi-tech park soon.
The Minister of State for ICT and Telecom has directed to increase income and reduce expenditure in the next 5 years after analyzing the picture of income and expenditure of the last 5 years to increase the income in an easy way by next 30 June.
On Monday morning, he visited the head office of the government-owned telecom company at Tongi and spent 45 minutes visiting from toilets to the stores on each floor of the building. During the inspection, poor condition of store management of PSTN telephone sets, PABX systems, digital meters, mobile batteries and chargers and laptop department of TSS was seen.
Seeing that, the state minister said in a meeting with the officials, “I realized that the store management is not being done after visiting from toilets to the stores. Old goods should go to auction. Even if the product has expired, the network equipment has not been opened”.
Due to lack of review or regular monitoring, Doyel laptop could not survive in the market even though it aroused response among the people; he said, despite having many resources and investments, we could not go towards exporting by assembling mobiles or laptops at TSS. TSS is doing well where the government is the only client, be it Doel laptops or smart electric meters, PABX, but where there is competition, it is not able to survive. But even though Walton, Fair Electronics and Hi-tech which are next to it get duty free benefits, they have to pay additional duty of Tk 7 crore in the last year. To reduce these costs, I am making arrangements to declare TSS as a Hi-Tech Park from today. So that any organization that invests here gets the same opportunity that the Hi-Tech Park gets.
