A Bangladeshi delegation consisting of Civil Society Organization (CSO) representatives, General Economic Department (GED) representatives of the Ministry of Planning, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) and Ministry of Water Resources has been invited to attend the UN 2023 Water Conference.
For the first time, leaders from around the world will work together to formulate a water action agenda at the conference, which begins on March 22 in New York. Mohammad Zobair Hasan, Deputy Executive Director of the Development Organization of the Rural Poor (DORP) from the Bangladeshi delegation will address the session titled ‘Water Action and Human Rights – Implementing the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation at the Local Level’. The 90-minute session will be held on 24 March 2023 at the German House, United Nations Plaza.
The session will highlight the activities of local government institutions and communities at the local level and show how the human rights to water and sanitation are already being implemented.
A panel of experts with an audience including governments and aid agencies will discuss what steps can be taken to support the implementation of the human right to water and sanitation at the local level.
Note that the human right to water and sanitation is included in the core tenets of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 and is universally recognized by all member states of the United Nations.
Co-hosted by the governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, the conference will feature six plenary sessions and five interactive dialogue sessions in addition to the opening and closing ceremonies.
