Dhaka University (DU) has become the champion in the Dhaka region under Asia of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), known as the Olympiad of programming. The ‘DU Kronos’ team of Dhaka University stood first in the competition while the other team from the same university ‘DU Not Ready Yet’ stood second and Bangladesh Engineering University’s team ‘BUET Sammohit’ stood third.
The Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Md. Samsul Arefin handed over the ‘Dhaka-Dubai-Dhaka, Dhaka-Singapore-Dhaka and Dhaka-Bangkok-Dhaka’ plane tickets with the courtesy of US-Bangla to the winning teams.
The Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir presided over the meeting while, the chief judge of the competition Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, professor of CSE department of Dhaka University, Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, BCC Executive Director Ranjit Kumar, ICPC Asia Dhaka Region Associate Director Professor Dr. Abul El Haque, Chair of ICPC Executive Committee and Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering of Green University Dr. Md. Saiful Azad, RDC Regional Contest Director (RCD) Dr. Aminur Rahman, ARDC Dr. Najib Abdun Nasir and others were present at this time.
The final phase of this competition Organized by Green University of Bangladesh was held on Saturday with the participation of 162 teams from 92 universities. Earlier, a total of 1,648 teams from 128 universities participated in the preliminary test of the competition.
While speaking as the chief guest at the award ceremony, the ICT Secretary Md. Samsul Arefin mentioned that ‘Bangladesh will be smart and technology-dependent’ and said, Bangladesh will be able to fulfill its technology sector goals very soon if there is full cooperation of the government as well as the private sector. The ICT sector of Bangladesh has come a long way in the race to create skilled human resources. A cooperative attitude will lead to better things in the future.
Earlier, on the opening day of the program on Friday, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Fayaz Khan spoke as the chief guest.
Digital Bangladesh, ICT Division of Bangladesh Government, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Therap BD Limited participated in the entire competition as supporting organizations.
