Bangladesh has advanced 14 steps in the Global Innovation Index in one year. Bangladesh is now ranked 102nd in the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Innovation Index. Considering the science and economic innovation, the score of Bangladesh in the global index is 19.7. The index reflects the progress of the last one year in knowledge capital, startup eco-system, science and technology. Despite doing well in creative output, intangible assets and online creativity, Bangladesh did best in Corporate Intangible Asset Intensity in the year 2022. As a result, Bangladesh is now in the 20th position among the 36 low-middle class countries in the world and 8th among the 10 countries of Central and South Asia.
According to the report, this score of Bangladesh is consistent with its development in education system, human resources, research and business sophistication.
According to the WIPO website, Bangladesh was stuck at the 116th position out of 132 countries for two consecutive years in 2020 and ’21. However, in 2022, as a result of great improvement, Bangladesh is ranked 95th among 132 countries by getting 12.7 points in science and technology. Apart from this, Bangladesh ranks 90th with 7.1 points in knowledge creation, while Bangladesh scores zero in patent and utility model generation. However, in terms of writing scientific and technical articles, Bangladesh is ranked 105th by getting 6.6 points and Bangladesh is ranked 63rd by scoring 12.2 in the indexable document (H).
Bangladesh is ranked 78th by getting 22.9 in Knowledge Impact Index, whereas Bangladesh ranks fifth in terms of labor productivity. Switzerland ranks the first position in this year’s Global Innovation Index with a score of 64.6. The United States is in second position with a score of 61.8 and Sweden is in third position with a score of 61.6. Bangladesh’s score in this year’s index is 19.7, which was 20.2 last year.
