His Excellency the President of Bangladesh Md. Abdul Hamid’s 80th birthday celebration event was held at the Liberation War Memorial Auditorium of IDEB building in Kakrail on Sunday night. The Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar was the chief guest in this event organized by Ashtagram Etna Mithamin Upazila Development and Welfare Association.
On this occasion, the minister wished Abdul Hamid on his birthday through a video call from the event stage. He wished him good health and long life. In response to this, the President wished everyone, including the audience present at the event, a Happy New Year and assured that the New Year will be spent well by all.
Meanwhile, Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that President Md. Abdul Hamid is a victorious hero forever. He is a role model. He is the pride of the entire Bangladesh including the Haor people of a vast area of 2,500 square kilometers from the foot of the Garo Hills to Bhairab in the north. If people love people, people never fail to return love, President Md. Abdul Hamid is his living example.
Justice of the Appellate Division, valiant freedom fighter Md. Nuruzzaman, Member of Parliament Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, prominent social worker Md. Anwar Hossain, Principal of Abdul Haque Government College, Md. Abdul Haque, DMP Additional Commissioner of Police and Secretary General of Greater Mymensingh Association Mohammad Harun-or Rashid, (PPM Bar, BPM Bar), Ashtagram Itna Mithamain Upazila Development and Welfare Vice President Senior Journalist Rajendra Chandra Deb Montu, Freedom Fighter Siraj Uddin Mir, Ashtagram Itna Mithamain Upazila Development and Welfare General Secretary Advocate Bimal Chandra Roy, Reception Committee Convener, Abeda Akhter Jahan and others were present.
President of Ashtagram Itna Mithamin Upazila Development and Welfare Association Md. Solaiman presided over the event. Md. Billal Hossain and Kamrul Hasan Babu anchored of the program.
Referring to the children of Kishoreganj, Syed Nazrul Islam, Zillur Rahman and Md. Abdul Hamid, the minister said that President Abdul Hamid is a bright star in the political sky. I feel very lucky to be part of the birthday celebrations of a man like him. Highlighting the role of President Abdul Hamid in the freedom movement of the brave freedom fighter Mustafa Jabba, the election of 1970 and the great liberation war of 1971, he said that he is a legend of ideological politics. Jail tyranny and ministerial greed in the later 1970s could not sway him from his ideals. He is the pride of being Haor– people. The minister gave a comparative picture of the present and the past of Haor and said that Haor people today are not behind in any level of development including education, communication and digital connectivity. However, I could not study in class six this time. There was no school. I had to study from a hostel 25 kilometers away from home. Today, that day has changed. The boys and girls of Haor are able to graduate today by sitting in Haor. We have established digital connectivity in Haor areas. During the Covid-19 pandemic, students have been able to take classes from home which was once unimaginable.
Depicting the radical change in Haor’s communication system, the minister said that once it took three days to reach Dhaka from Haor areas. Today that day has changed. Now it is possible to come to Dhaka by crossing Haor in three hours. The Minister mentioned that all these are the result of the dynamic leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister and the efforts and initiatives of His Excellency the President. He said that the overall quality of life of the people of the country has changed today due to the continuation of Digital Bangladesh program under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The minister thanked the officials of Ashtagram Etna Mithamoin Upazila Development and Welfare Association for taking the initiative to celebrate the birthday.
Appreciating the initiative to celebrate the birthday, the Member of Parliament Rezwan Ahmad Taufiq said, “We are drenched in your love.” You have honored my father by choosing him again and again. He is where he is today because of your love. He also thanked the entrepreneurs on behalf of the family.
Speakers on the occasion shed light on various aspects of Mr. Abdul Hamid’s political, family and personal life.
Later, a special prayer was held to wish Abdul Hamid good health and long life, and a cake was cut to celebrate his birthday.
The program ended with a delightful cultural program.
