Now about 84 percent of the VAT filed every month is done using the online medium. Till November 28, 2022, 4 lakh 4 thousand 376 online VAT registrations of the country have been completed in the Board of Revenue- NBR.
This information was given at the seminar and awarding ceremony at the office of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in Khalishpur, Khulna on Saturday afternoon on the occasion of VAT Day and VAT Week.
In the seminar held under the theme of ‘VAT policy for development, the nation will be built with VAT’, it was further informed that the target of VAT collection of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in the current financial year is 3 thousand 453 crores. Out of this, VAT collection of Tk. 827 crore has been completed in the last five months.
Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek was the chief guest on the occasion. Dhaka Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal President SM Humayun Kabir, Commissioner of Mongla Custom House Mohammad Neyazur Rahman, Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT (Appeal) Commissionerate were the special guests. Nahida Faridi, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) of Khulna Metropolitan Police. Sajid Hossain and Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vice President Mostafa Jessan Bhutt.
Muhammad Zakir Hossain, Commissioner of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate presided over the event. Deputy Tax Commissioner Belal Hossain presented the keynote at the event and welcomed by Joint Tax Commissioner Md. Majedul Haque.
Speakers in the event said that VAT system is currently in operation in 166 countries of the world. The National Board of Revenue of Bangladesh achieved a growth of 16.07 percent in revenue collection in the fiscal year 2021-22, while the growth of VAT collected from domestic sources was 11.19 percent.
In the event, the 15 companies that paid the highest VAT in the financial year 2021-22 were honored. The awardees include M/s Khorshed Metal Industries of Shiromani Basic Industrial Area, Khulna, Save and Save of Daulatpur, M/s Sabiha Chemical Works of Jhalkathi, Panja Bidi Limited of Patuakhali, M/s Ujjal Chemical Works of Barguna, MEP Printing and Packaging Industries of Barisal, New Park Bangla of Barisal, Barisal Nadia Furniture Limited, Mongla’s Dubai Bangladesh Cement Mills Limited, Chan Bidi Factory, Madaripur, M/s Sigma Traders, Madaripur, Hotel Sarbik International, Madaripur, Bajaj Village, Shariatpur, Bajaj Sales Point, Satkhira and M/s Jaihun Dairy Shop, Satkhira.
