The 22nd FIFA Football World Cup- the biggest football show on earth has started in Qatar. To commemorate this exciting moment of the Football World Cup, the Department of Posts and Telecommunications has released a commemorative postage stamp of taka 10, a souvenir sheet of 30 taka, an opening envelope of taka 10, a data card of taka 5and a special seal.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar released the commemorative postage stamps, souvenir sheets and opening envelopes and released data cards and special seals at the conference room of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday. Post and Telecommunication Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman and Director General of the Department of Posts Md. Harun Ur Rashid were present at the time.
Posts and Telecommunication Minister termed football as the most popular game in the world and said that initially this game was played only as a hobby, which took an international form in 1872. The match between Scotland and England in Glasgow was the first international match. There was a time when football was played only at the Olympics. But its popularity continued to grow day by day to such an extent that the football organization thought of organizing a tournament outside the Olympics. For that purpose, a competition was organized in Switzerland in 1906. Two years later, in 1908 in London, football competition officially began at the Summer Olympics. Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to host the FIFA World Cup.
