Cyclone ‘Sitrang’ disrupted the mobile networks in coastal areas on Monday. However, the operators could manage to activate 684 sites by 6 pm even in a hostile environment. As a result, the number of towers activated on the night of cyclone was 6.5 %.
Cyclone Sitrang: Operators are ready to protect telecom assets
According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission-BTRC, a total of 4563 sites were down on October 24 due to the storm. Among them, Grameenphone had 1683, Robi Axiata had 1363, Banglalink Digital had 1075 and state-owned Teletalk had 438 sites.
However, even in the stormy weather, Grameenphone was able to activate their 534 temporary networks. The number of network activated by other operators are as follows: Robi 80, Banglalink 2 and Teletalk 68.
