In keeping with various social media including TikTok, YouTube has also taken the initiative to bring user handles. Account or channel handles can be used via @ on the platform. News Engadget.
YouTube hasn’t launched it yet, even though it’s in vogue on other online platforms. As announced, every YouTube user will get a unique handle, which can be used across the platform, including channel pages and shorts. Users can mention others using the handle in several places including the comment section, video description and title of the platform.
YouTube says that this will allow content creators to easily reach their audience, making themselves more visible.
In a blog post, YouTube said, “We want to ensure that creators can create a unique identity similar to their content, where viewers can feel confident that they are interacting with the creator of their choice.”
The creator’s channel name will still remain, but potentially impersonating accounts will be truncated because of the special handle. YouTube will gradually launch this new handle from this week.
Users will know when they can pick their handle. This means, many will get the opportunity to pick the handle before others. If a user has already created a personalized URL, that will be their default handle. He will get a chance to change it later.
YouTube says a handle can be helpful for creators who aren’t yet on the YouTube platform or whose accounts aren’t as active.
