Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 5,000 more digital computer labs on Sheikh Russell Day on October 18 as part of the series of activities to build an innovative, smart Bangladesh by 20141 by creating skilled human resources on the foundation of Digital Bangladesh.
The state minister conveyed this information while speaking as the Chief Guest at the ‘Investors’ Gathering’ function of the ‘International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)’ World Finals at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Sunday night.
At this time, Senior Secretary of ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kamrul Ahsan, distinguished professor of BRAC University Dr. Mohammad Kaikobad, Hitech Park Authority Managing Director Bikarna Kumar Ghosh and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Executive Director Ranjit Kumar. In addition, the executive director of the ICPC Foundation Dr. Bill Poucher was connectedonline.
Mohammad Enamul Kabir, Director of Bangladesh Computer Council, gave a detailed presentation on the organization of the competition. He said that this year’s event will be held in Dhaka from November 9-16. Students of 8 universities of Bangladesh are participating in this event.
ISPAB President Imdadul Haque, BACCO President Waheed Sharif and others were present among others. In the program, late Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, the famous engineer who was the promoter of ICPC in Bangladesh, was remembered with deep gratitude.
The meeting was held jointly with the University of Asia Pacific under the initiative of the ICT Division. While speaking as the chief guest, the ICT State Minister said, our next generation is not a problem maker; rather a problem solver generation. For that we are building an innovative culture in the country. As a part of that, the National High School Programming Contest has started. Implementing 300 Sheikh Russell Schools of Future in various Upazilas and parliamentary constituencies; where the knowledge and skills of children and teenagers will be developed about the necessary technologies of the 4th industrial revolution.
In his speech, Palak called on corporate representatives to sponsor the final phase of ICPC Dhaka and urged them to join various initiatives in Bangladesh to achieve the goal of knowledge-based economy by 2041.
The State Minister said, “International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) started in 1977 but Bangladesh participated for the first time after 20 years in 1997. Our BUET team participated for the first time in 1997 and ranked among the top 25 teams in the world, when honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina felicitated them. After 20 years, Bangladesh is not only a participant but also the host country of the 2022 ICPC Finals. 1000 young programmers from 75 countries of the world, who will shape the modern world of tomorrow; They will come to Bangladesh and participate in the ICPC Finals”.
“This achievement has been made possible due to the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Jannetri Sheikh Hasina and the development of ICT infrastructure of Digital Bangladesh under the supervision of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy Bhai” added Palak.
It is to be noted that, the International Collegiate Programming Competition is a global programming competition organized by universities around the world. The global competition is organized by the ICPC Foundation headquartered at Baylor University in Texas, USA. Over the past four decades since the 1970s, ICPC has become a game-changing globally competitive education program that has multiplied the aspirations and performance of the world’s problem solvers in mathematics, computing science and engineering.
Bangladesh has been participating in the ICPC since 1998 and had the honor of becoming the Asia West champion last year. Bangladesh is now the 4th country in Asia to have the honor of hosting this world premiere event.
ICPC Foundation organizes various levels of competitions such as local competitions, regional competitions, regional championships and international championships. More than 50,000 students from more than 3,000,000 universities in more than 100 countries participate in this competition every year.
