Appreciating the role of the country’s IT trade body in building Digital Bangladesh to move Bangladesh forward, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mostafa Jabbar, urged the leaders of the organizations to work with new technologies to maintain this leadership. He expressed hope that Bangladesh will lead the world through IoT, robotics and AI.
The Minister expressed this hope while speaking as the chief guest at the prayer and discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day at BASIS Conference Center on Monday, organized by BASIS.
He said that no one else has done as much positive work as Sheikh Hasina in the development of information technology in Bangladesh. BASIS and BCS has a lot of role in supporting, encouraging and motivating Sheikh Hasina in this regard. This role resulted in software exports from Bangladesh to India today. But so far we have progressed in the conventional way; A stage of digitalization has become possible. But for us now, this is the time of new technology. This era was created by telecommunications. We used to think about kilobytes of data. Now it’s turning into terabits. So now there is no time for lotus or debase. Now we have to work with Artificial Intelligence, IOT, and Robotics.
In the speech, ‘paying tribute to Bangabandhu will only be worthwhile when we take the role that IT trade bodies have played in the past to move Bangladesh forward’, the minister said. According to him, bureaucrats, ministers and others have not played the role of trade bodies for digitization. We have to maintain this lead as we have done. This industry has that capability.’
He said, we have not created fake software. Rather, many are learning from us. Now we have to make software with artificial intelligence for use in robots, self-driven cars or garments factories. We will take the lead in this. If we can spread Bangabandhu’s foresight to the new generation and utilize his wisdom and talent, we don’t need to worry about anything else, he commented.
BASIS Executive Committee members were present while the Vice-President (Administration) of BASIS Abu Dawood Khan conducted the program.
In his welcome address, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) President Russell T. Ahmed said, “Education about Bangabandhu is a family affair.” Beyond politics, Bangabandhu’s personality, style, attitude and style of presentation still amaze me. I think Allah himself gave him these qualities. His lifestyle, style of dressing, and overall qualities is a lesson for today’s generation.
At the end of the ceremony, a special prayer was offered for the repose of the soul of Bangabandhu. BASIS Director AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu, Mushfiqur Rahman, BASIS Advisory Committee Vice President Shah Imraul Qaish, Uttam Kumar Pal, BASIS Executive Director Abu Isa Md. Mainuddin, Secretary Hashim Ahmed, leaders of the BASIS Standing Committee and a notable number of BASIS members were also present in this prayer.
