Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association- BMPCA, an organization on consumer rights, has demanded to take quick steps to regulate mobile applications.
In a statement sent to the media on Thursday (August 4), the president of the organization, Mohiuddin Ahmed, said that the use of mobile applications is also increasing day by day in addition to the need for internet in the daily work of digital Bangladesh.
In his statement, the president of the organization Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “Based on the information received, it is known that there are about 3.5 million mobile Android applications in the Google Play Store. Another study found that Android-powered smartphones are responsible for nearly 80% of malware creation. There are currently around 12 crore mobile internet users in our country. Again, 98% of these users use Android smartphones. Google is VAT registered only in our country. They do not have any data center or office. We are still learning how to use the internet. Most of the people in the remote areas of the country do not know which mobile application they need to use or which one they don’t need. On the other hand, there is no specific policy or effective action to register or manage mobile applications in our country. So you have to pay attention to these matters.”
He said, nowadays our life is mostly dependent on application technology. Starting from alarm to wake up in the morning, starting a favorite playlist on the music player, going for a jog, buying a car ticket, booking a hotel room or a restaurant table, choosing the right and easy way to reach the destination through digital navigation technology, people from far and wide. This technology is making life easier in many ways including maintaining relationships through regular communication. We can easily track your movements through your smartphone for security purposes, subject to certain conditions. We can keep an eye on our house, car and essentials even from a distance. That is, the applications are being made with all kinds of management necessary to make life easy and enjoyable.
But are these applications really safe? BMPCA president also demanded to formulate a policy to control our control commission, questioning how capable it is. Besides, it has been advised to take urgent steps to control mobile applications to protect the safety of citizens and social degradation of internet misuse.
