The sixth ‘Census and Housing Census-2022’ program is starting from Wednesday, 15 June, 2022. The week-long census will end on June 21. For various reasons, this year’s census has become ‘special’. This is the first digital census in Bangladesh. Walton tab made in Bangladesh is being used in this census. Mobile networks and their own software are all set for instant data storage. The hotline is being launched to ensure that no one is left out or to avoid misinformation.
In addition, during the previous five censuses conducted 10 years apart data was collected on papers. Another special issue is; this is the first time that foreigners staying in Bangladesh will be counted in the census. Not only that, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will also collect information of Bangladeshi nationals residing abroad.
A web-based Integrated Census Management System (ICMS) has been prepared and various levels of control maps have been prepared in the Geographical Information System (GIS) enumeration area for conducting the census activities smoothly.
They exchanged views with prominent citizens on Monday (June 13th) to make the census and household census more fruitful and successful. It was attended by editors of various newspapers, university professors and former and current senior government officials.
Project Director Dildar Hossain told the meeting that the first census was conducted in 1974 under the direction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The second, third, fourth and fifth censuses and household censuses were held in 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011 for 10 consecutive years. The main purpose of this census and housing census is to determine the population and number of houses in the country and to adopt the overall development plan of the country. Digital maps have been created by combining Geographic Information System (GIS) and Geo Code to easily and precisely identify the counting area of the census and house-hold censure that no cell is omitted or counted repeatedly.
