Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has hinted at launching own digital currency to encourage startups and e-commerce businesses. Speaking on cryptocurrency in the budget proposal for FY 2022-23 on Thursday, he said many central banks are working to launch digital versions of their own currencies as risky use of virtual currencies like cryptocurrency continues to grow worldwide.
In his budget speech at the visual presentation, Mustafa Kamal said that the main purpose of launching Central Bank Digital Currency (CDBC) was to facilitate money exchange in virtual transactions and to encourage startups and e-commerce businesses.
“Internet use and e-commerce have grown exponentially in the country due to timely steps taken by our government. In this context, a feasibility study will be done to make digital currency in the country through Bangladesh Bank,” added the Finance Minister.
