Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the entire capital will be covered by CCTV cameras. He said, it will provide special facilities for almost all works including traffic and crime control in Dhaka city.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 9th General Assembly of Nirapod Sarak Chai -‘We Demand Safe Road’ (WDSR) held at Shilpakala Academy in the capital’s Segunbagicha on Saturday, May 28, he said, “We are taking initiative to make Dhaka a safer city.” If we can do so, then we will do it for Chattogram and Rajshahi as well. We are working towards that goal. In this we will get benefits especially in everything including traffic and crime control.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, “Everyone wants safe roads, I also want it.” We need to change our mindset, to follow traffic laws. We need to use seat belts and control speed on the road. Many of us do not. We have to work with the tendency to abide by the law. If we disobey the law, we are imprisoned and fined by the police. We all need awareness more than that. If we are aware, if we abide by the law, if we work in terms of reality, then success will come and of course we can do it. And if everyone is aware, accidents and death toll will decrease.
Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Shilpakala Academy, said at the gathering that the first step was to change our mentality to reduce road accidents. The one who drives the vehicle has to be more humane and play a role.
Ilias Kanchan, the founding president of of Nirapod Sarak Chai -‘We Demand Safe Road’ (WDSR) said, “This is our country, these are our people, so we have to abide by traffic rules to curb road accidents; That is why we have set up many branches outside Dhaka, so that they can keep the roads in their respective areas safe. We have to think of ourselves and to change ourselves first. We have to do the main work. So everyone has to work together.”
At the rally WDSR founder president Ilias Kanchan also demanded implementation of 111 recommendations for safe roads.
