Sitting in these densely forested villages, like Gaira, Gachabari, Idilpur in Madhupur forest area of Tangail district, Garo youths have been doing freelancing with mobile modems for so long. However, the mobile network was available ranging between 2G and 3G. As a result, they had to get connected to the Internet with that poor connection with a modem on tin roof.
Now, those days are going to be a past history after getting connected with broadband internet facility. Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar virtually inaugurated this broadband internet connection provided by a private internet service provider on Thursday.
He conveyed another good news to the local villagers by assuring to launch mobile network in all remote and hard to reach areas including remote hilly areas of Madhupur. He said that the mobile internet problem will also end on March 12. Meanwhile, Grameenphone is in the final stages of setting up a tower there.
He said that high speed internet connection has been ensured in remote hilly areas, islands, chars and haors of the country except 190 unions. Every village in the country will become a digital village shortly.
The Minister further said that there is a lot of hidden talent all over the country like the forest of Madhupur. If we can give them digital connection, many new talents will come out. He said that this nation, which had been lagging behind in technology for hundreds of years, will not lag behind any further than other countries in the world in the next ten years. We’ve already launched 5G. 5G will be a great tool to move forward in every field including agriculture, fisheries, trade and industries.
Speaking on the occasion, praising the news of Daily Prothom Alo reporter Rahitul Islam Ruel, the minister said that he came to know about the bad condition of internet or mobile network in the village through Ruel’s reporting. And the problem also has been solved immediately. Even when I was not a minister, I worked side by side with journalists like Rahituls and still doing. Such stories deserve appreciations.
The Daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Head of Youth Program Munir Hasan, Reporter Rahitul Islam and Subir Nagarig spoke on behalf of the villagers expressed their views at the inauguration ceremony.
