The government has directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to be more proactive in spreading confusion as well as creating chaos by using social media. After the third session of the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hassan Mahmud said this in response to various questions.
The Minister for Information and Broadcasting said that there was a lot of discussion on social media in today’s session. “If we analyze the data of last 7-8 years, then we can realize that most of the rumors which have been spread were spread intentionally through social media. We have raised the issue with the deputy commissioners”, he said.
He further said, “You know that about 90 million people use social media in Bangladesh. It is constantly increasing. Just as social media is a big field for propaganda, it is also a big field for spreading propaganda. It is often seen to serve misleading news. They are disrupted locally in the country through social media. Those issues have been raised to the DCs. They should be active in these matters and take effective measures.”
