The academic council of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has finalized five members through selection and nomination for the Regent Board, the highest policy-making forum. They were finalized at the 40th meeting of the Academic Council of JUST on Wednesday afternoon.
In accordance with sub-section (l) of section 18 of the Jessore University of Science and Technology Act 2001 relating to the formation of Regent Board, the principal of Government MM College of Jessore and the principal of Jessore Medical College were first nominated. Subsequently, in accordance with sub-section (j) of the same section, three out of seven candidates were elected among the teachers of JUST by direct vote of the members of the Academic Council.
Getting the highest number of votes, the chairman of the Department of Microbiology, Professor. Md. Iqbal Kabir Zahid; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib getting the second highest vote and and Dean of the Faculty of Business Education Dr. Md. Mehdi Hasan getting the third highest vote has been elected. JUST Registrar Engineer Dr. Ahsan Habib conducted the election.
At the end of the election, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said that the democratic trend that is continuing among the teachers of this university has been proved once again through this vote. Hopefully, they will play a strong role in advancing the education and research of this university by giving their views in the meeting of the Board of Regents. The meeting of the Academic Council decided to award the Vice Chancellor’s Award and Dean’s Award to the students of the University for their outstanding work and role in research, education, social, sports and other applicable fields.
JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain presided over the meeting while the Deans of all the faculties of the University, the departmental chairmen and all the other members of the Academic Council attended the meeting.
