Grameenphone has received the Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) award. Grameenphone, the country’s largest mobile phone operator, has won the award for the highest number of disputes settled through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in FY 2020-21.
Grameenphone’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jens Baker received the award from LTU-VAT Commissioner Wahida Rahman Chowdhury at a function held at the Dhaka Regency Hotel in the capital on Sunday, the company said in a press release.
The event was organized by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Large Taxpayer Unit, Value Added Tax (LTU-VAT) on the occasion of Tax Week (December 10 to 15).
Alternative Dispute Resolution is an effective mechanism by which disputes can be settled in a short period of time with less transparency than following the formalities of appeals, tribunals and courts. Based on global success, this system was introduced in Bangladesh in FY 2011-12.
This time, the NBR organized various events under the theme ‘Pay VAT Online, Participate in Building the Country’ to encourage individuals and organizations to celebrate VAT Day and VAT Week.
In this regard, Grameenphone CFO Jens Baker said, “We are very honored to receive the award for the highest number of disputes settled through ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution’ in the current financial year. We will continue our efforts as a team to resolve the remaining issues.
“It would not have been possible without the help of the government to use technology, increase efficiency through automation and promote a culture of transparency,” he said. Thanks to LTU-VAT for inspiring me with such recognition. As a responsible business organization, Grameenphone follows the highest ethical standards in all its activities. As well as maintaining accountability, honesty and transparency. We will continue our efforts to open up every potential field to contribute to nation building.
Grameenphone Director and Head of Financial Controlling and Taxation Arif Uddin and Head of Value Added Tax Mohammad Qayyum Sarkar were present on the occasion.
