State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu has emphasized providing public transport services through eco-friendly electric vehicles to reduce dependence on fossil fuel.
The state minister made the suggestion while participating in a virtual exchange of views with journalists on Saturday (November 6) in the wake of rising fuel prices.
“We have to move towards electric vehicles,” he said. In particular, if public transport can be made electric, eco-friendly vehicles will be ensured in the country. The engine efficiency of electric vehicles is high and also affordable. Oil import costs will also be reduced.
Responding to a question from reporters, the state minister for energy also said that the reduction in the price of fuel oil in the world market would be reflected in Bangladesh.
At the same time, he said, the rate at which the price of fuel oil has been adjusted, the fare per 10 km of public transport should not increase by more than 93 paisa. Passengers should not be held hostage in the name of increasing fares.
Earlier, the Minister of State for Energy called on world leaders to ensure the proliferation of renewable energy by combining advanced technology, research and financial cooperation by attending the ‘COP26’ Energy Transition Council Ministerial Event in Glasgow.
