Four officials of Bangladesh Telecommunication Limited (BTCL) have been acquitted of a case filed by the ACC nine years ago. They are Md. Mahbubur Rahman, the former director of BTCL (inspection), AKM Asaduzzaman, the then Divisional Engineer (ITS), Engineer Md. Tawfiq, former member (Maintenance and Operation) and M. Abu Saeed Khan, the then managing director. Other than them, SM Istiaq, Bangladesh representative of the US company Aristocal Services was also acquitted.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court No. 9 acquitted them on Wednesday afternoon.
The case was filed by the then ACC deputy director SM Shahidur Rahman at Ramna police station on November 5, 2012 on charges of embezzling Taka 15 crore.
On July 30, 2013, the investigating officer had filed charges against the accused excluding Md. Tawfiq and Abu Saeed Khan. They were later added to the list of accused in the supplementary chargesheet.
During the trial of the case, the testimony of 13 people was taken on behalf of the state, informed Shariful Islam, the presenter of the court.
