Sheikh Russell Day will be celebrated nationally on 18th October every year as ‘A’ class day. The regular cabinet meeting on Monday approved the observance of the day in a national manner.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak proposed to observe ‘Sheikh Russell Day’ and highlighted its rationale in the cabinet meeting. In this context, the Cabinet unanimously approved the proposal.
The Minister of State for ICT expressed his gratitude to the members of the Cabinet on behalf of the ICT Department for declaring October 18 as “Sheikh Russel Day”.
In his reaction, State Minister for ICT said, “From now on, Sheikh Russel Day will be celebrated nationally on October 18 every year from social, political and religious levels.” Which will be a symbol of inspiration for the children of the future. This void of Sheikh Russel will fill the space of his ideological position and mental fortitude from generation to generation and will bring a far-reaching opportunity to know the consciousness and true history of the Liberation War in the national life.
It may be mentioned that Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh, was born on October 18, 1964. Russel was the youngest of five siblings. Sheikh Russel was a fourth grader at University Laboratory School and College. On 15 August 1975, 18 people, including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his wife Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, and infant son Sheikh Russell, were brutally killed in a coup d’état.
The Department of ICT initiated the establishment of Sheikh Russel Digital Lab to build a digital education system in the country so that all future students of Bangladesh could keep their beloved Sheikh Russel in their hearts and minds in the ideals of Bangabandhu. 8,000 “Sheikh Russel Digital Labs” have already been set up across Bangladesh, including Saudi Arabia. Another 5,000 “Sheikh Russell Digital Labs” and 300 “Schools of the Future” are being set up. There are also plans to set up another 10,000 “Sheikh Russell Digital Labs” in the future. Through which millions of students are being educated in information technology.
Sheikh Russel’s memory will be immortalized among the children and teenagers who use the Sheikh Russel Digital Lab established in educational institutions across the country. The present and future generations will be strong in building a better Bangladesh with Sheikh Russel’s brilliant conviction in mind to lead Bangladesh in the days to come.
