Blockchain, IoT, BigData, AI and Robotics are key technologies driving the next wave of digital transformation. In order to move forward with all these technologies, the high-tech parks in Bangladesh should be developed as separate specialized parks.
The suggestion was made in the webinar ‘Hi-Tech Parks to Make Bangladesh an IT Hub’ organized by CTO Forum on Saturday.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharya, who was the chief guest at the event informed that most of the entrepreneurs in Jessore Hi-Tech Park are local and called upon the authorities to reduce the rent at the Hi-Tech Park. It is very difficult for these young entrepreneurs to pay so much rent. The rent of high-tech parks should be made affordable for entrepreneurs to move forward.
The keynote article was delivered by Dr. Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority. He said the government has invested Tk 1,000 crore to build the high-tech park and Tk 600 crore from the private sector. Meanwhile, Hi-Tech Park has already earned Taka 50 crore. We expect Tk 4,000 crore to be invested here by 2023.
Mahbub Zaman, Managing Director, Datasoft, called for specializing Hi-Tech Parks i.e. dedicating Dhaka Hi-Tech Park for IoT, Jessore Hi-Tech Park for AI and so on.
Tapan Kanti Sarkar, President of CTO Forum, said that the ‘brain drain’ from our country is being stopped as a result of creating employment in high-tech parks.
Speaking at the webinar, Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub, Chairman, Fair Group said ‘Made in Bangladesh’ car will hit the market in the middle of next year; “Hyundai Motors is working to make cars in Bangladesh. It will be possible to market Made in Bangladesh cars by June next year.”
Shamim Ahsan, Managing Director of eGeneration informed that the direct investment in all countries of the world has decreased by 45 percent during this ongoing pandemic, but in Bangladesh, it has decreased only by 11 percent, which is a good indicator for the country’s economy.
