Internet and dish cables have been laid in 51 buildings over Metrorail Line-6 from Uttara to Kamlapur. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has written a request to the concerned authorities for the removal of this hanging cables. DMTCL also warned in the letter that appropriate legal action will be taken if the necessary measures for removal are not taken within 24 hours.
On Thursday, the project director of MRT-6 Md. Aftab Uddin Talukder has given a letter to Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh-COAB President ABM Saiful Hossain and Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh-ISPAB President Md. Imdadul Haque in this connection.
Confirming the receipt of the letter, Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh president ABM Saiful Hossain said on Saturday, March 30, that the members of the organization have already been told about this removal. If not, legal action will be taken. Association cannot take responsibility for this. Our operators have since removed most of the cables. Those that remain belong to Internet Service Providers.
But President of Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh, Md. Imdadul Haque said that he learned about the letter from the media, not from the authority. He also said that the removal work has started by expressing his agreement about this cable removal.
However, citing 24-hour time as insufficient due to Friday and Saturday closure, he added that 10 to 15 buildings may still have Internet cables.
Meanwhile, DMTCL’s letter says that MRT Line-6, under the management of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, is now operating regularly from 7:10 am to 10:14 pm as per the schedule every day except Friday. The people of Dhaka Metropolis are enjoying the benefits of safe, comfortable and short metro rail travel. Now an average of 290,000 passengers are traveling by metro rail every day.
According to the letter, the initial survey showed that internet and dish cables were laid in 51 buildings over the viaduct and overhead catenary system of route alignment of MRT Line-6 of DMTCL. There is a danger of severe accidents if these are torn at any moment and fall on the viaduct and overhead catenary system of the Metrorail. The danger of such accidents is more in the coming monsoon season. Depot area, station, route alignment and related facilities of MRT Line-6 are Key Infrastructure (KPI).
