State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that the post office will be developed as a supporting force for e-commerce, banking services and courier services. For that purpose, along with changes in the century old postal law, the work has started in formulating a plan to utilize the huge infrastructure of the post office, the vast township and the manpower.
This was stated by the state minister at the inauguration ceremony of converting Tungipara main post office, Kotalipara upazila post office, Pirganj post office of Rangpur and Jessore main post office into smart service points on Saturday.
Joining the inauguration ceremony virtually, the state minister said that in the last 15 years, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have become a technology-dependent nation. If this trend of progress continues, we will become a prosperous nation by implementing Smart Bangladesh before 2041.
While speaking as the chief guest, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that smart service will be delivered to the doorsteps of common people in every village including remote areas of the country along with regular postal service through smart service point of post office. As a result of this, digital inequality will be reduced on one hand and on the other hand more than 325 villages will get e-government services, e-commerce and banking services. For this purpose, the government is adopting and implementing action plans to convert every post office in the country into smart service points. The state minister said, under the direction of ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the journey of building Smart Bangladesh, 4 post office smart service points are being inaugurated as part of the program to transform the conventional postal system into a smart postal system. Earlier, Koira Post Office in Khulna was converted into Smart Service Point on March 19. By next May, 500 post offices and 9970 existing post offices in the country will be converted into smart service points.
Mentioning the Smart Service Point (SSP) initiative, a concerted effort to integrate digital solutions with traditional postal services, he said, the service points would improve accessibility and accessibility in rural areas of Bangladesh by offering facilities such as parcel tracking, bill payment and e-commerce facilities. Will revolutionize efficiency. He cautioned against any irregularities and corruption by the officials of the Department of Posts to facilitate the transition of the post office from mail delivery to service delivery.
