Academician and fiction writer Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal expressed fear that social media may appear as a threat in the upcoming elections. Social media is termed as a fear of elections in India. We too have fear here. I am afraid of social media.
Dr. Zafar Iqbal opined so while speaking as the chief guest at the round table discussion on ‘Communality has no place in harmonious Bangladesh’ organized by Sampriti Bangladesh at CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (November 14).
Zafar Iqbal said, elections are coming, so we have to be careful about social media. Social media can become a threat in the upcoming elections.
Calling social media dangerous for communalism, Zafar Iqbal said, this dangerous place should be checked. The young generation knows this very well, they should utilize it. New generation who haven’t seen 71, need to read the history.
He also said that all the crisis of the country started in 1975. Which is still prevailing. On August 15, 1975, Bangladesh completely turned over in one night. A Beautiful Bangladesh has been pushed back. We are fighting to bring back that Bangladesh. I am a very optimistic person. I believe in people. When the need arises, the people of Bangladesh take to the streets.
Regarding primary education, the educationist said that children should be taught to inculcate non-communal spirit. Children should be taught from primary education that, we are human beings. Brotherhood should be taught. They should be told that these identities like Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Santal create division among people.
Various professionals and cultural personalities were present on the occasion. They said, to build Bangladesh of liberation war and non-communal spirit, we should be united in the election. Communalism has no place in Bangladesh of harmony. It is not enough to implement mega projects, but attention should be paid to creating non-communal people. They also said that the change in the text book on the advice of Hefazat-e- Islam is regrettable.
