EDOTCO celebrated a decade of making its way in Bangladesh with the spread of Baulia Bangaliana, Malay tunes and technology in a grand event. Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar cut the cake on Thursday evening at a restaurant in Dhaka. He was accompanied by High Commissioner of Malaysia Hazna Md Hashim, Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Engineer Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman of EDTCO Bangladesh and GCEO of EDTCO Group Adlan Tajudin and Country Managing Director of EDTCO Bangladesh Sunil Isaac.
It was informed in the event that, in this short journey of ten years – a member/associate company of Malaysia-based EDOTCO Group, EDOTCO Bangladesh has made an effective and significant contribution to the development of the telecommunication sector of this country. The company has made an initial foreign direct investment (FDI) of $20 billion and a total capex investment of $60 billion over the past ten years. Ten years after its inception in Bangladesh, the company continues to lead the industry by providing digital and innovative network infrastructure services and currently provides seamless telecommunication services to billions of people with 35 regional offices across the country and a total of 18,000 towers (owned and operated).
The establishment of the Center of Design Excellence (CODE) in Dhaka is a sign of the company’s commitment to sustainable design solutions. One of the signs of EDTCO’s forward-looking efforts is the inauguration of Bangladesh’s first hybrid solar-wind tower 75 meters high on Hatia Island and the use of bamboo in the construction of telecommunication towers with emphasis on innovation and sustainability. Moreover, the introduction of spanned restressed concrete (SPC) towers in the country is a reflection of the company’s commitment to continuous and sustainable development.
Along with these technological innovations, novel initiatives like tower sharing further resonate the positive impact of EDTCO Bangladesh – reducing the company’s carbon footprint and supporting more than 8,000 families with additional electricity from various sustainable sources.
Again, through the vaccination program in the remote areas of Satkhira district, EDTCO has continued to fulfill its commitment to serve the local community. Acknowledgment of ‘Global Best Employer Awards 2022’ and achievement of prestigious ‘ISO 9001:2015’ certification reflects the company’s sincere efforts in providing quality services. Covering more than 17,000 towers, this program of 25,000 tenancies is indicative of EDTCO Bangladesh’s relentless efforts and commitment to building a smarter and more connected Bangladesh.
Adlan Tajudin, Chairman of EDTCO Bangladesh and GCEO of EDTCO Group, said, “Thinking about the future, we have focused on the introduction of 5G technology in the telecommunication sector of Bangladesh to ensure technological transformation.” We consider Bangladesh as an important market. Accordingly, EDTCO is poised to lead the evolution of technology in the telecommunication sector in Bangladesh. For this, the emphasis will be on breakthrough innovation and community connectivity or bringing more local people under the coverage of telecommunication services.”
EDTCO Bangladesh Country Managing Director Sunil Isaac expressed his gratitude, “Our success has been possible due to the tireless efforts of all the dedicated staff of the Bangladesh program and the support of other staff in the region. Also the support of the government, the support of the stakeholders and the trust and confidence of the people of this country, these were also unprecedented. As a result our journey has been smooth. We are ready for the 5G era with an emphasis on sustainable innovation. We are now on course to achieve our ambitious goal of building a connected, smart, green Bangladesh.”
EDTCO Bangladesh started its journey in 2013 as a subsidiary of EDTCO Group based in Malaysia. Since then this company has been consistently achieving success in setting up and operating the telecommunication tower infrastructure of Bangladesh like a champion. EDOTCO focuses on tower installation and leasing, co-location or partnering with similar organizations, energy management and sustainable operations at all levels. A joint study with Roland Berger suggests that mobile network operators can save up to $10 billion by sharing infrastructure with tower companies. At the same time, customers can save a total of 67 billion or 6700 crores by the year 2025 due to the use of 5G services at an affordable price.
