WhatsApp has suspended at least 7.4 lakh accounts in India to prevent misuse and to comply with IT policies. These accounts were closed only in last August. News The Times of India.
According to WhatsApp data, 3.56 lakh 905 of the closed accounts had no report against them.
There are about 500 million WhatsApp users in India. 14,767 accounts were reported against in August. Out of these 71 reports were ‘actioned’.
WhatsApp said it had received an order from India’s Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) last August and the company had acted in accordance with that order. GAC has been set up by the Central Government of India to monitor content and other issues.
