To prevent dengue, the central bank has ordered to keep the bank premises including the ATM booth and its surroundings clean on regular basis. The Banking Regulations and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank has issued an instruction in this regard.
According to the instructions of the Central Bank, the dengue outbreak has increased in the whole country including Dhaka in recent times. A significant number of dengue patients are admitted to the hospital every day. Some of them are dying. Aedes mosquito breeding ground is expanding due to widespread dumping of garbage, rainfall, stagnant water, global climate change etc. As a result, the destruction of the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes and increasing public awareness to prevent dengue is of particular importance.
It is mentioned in this instruction that, from now on awareness should be taken to prevent dengue disease and steps should be ten for the protection of bank officers/employees and customers. Bank’s head office, branch/sub-branch/agent outlet/training center/ATM booth and all the centers and surroundings of banks where Aedes mosquitoes can spread should be kept clean regularly.
Aedes mosquito breeding ground i.e. water storage containers or places especially abandoned flower tubs, unused pots, abandoned tires, plastic bottles etc. should be destroyed. Other areas like building roof, garage, AC, fridge, water tank, kitchen etc. should be kept clean all the time.
It is further stated in the directive that necessary initiatives should be taken by the bank in order to increase awareness in this regard, including ensuring cleanliness in the office buildings as well as the residential facilities built for the officers/employees of the bank. Mosquito repellents, sprays or coils shall be used on a regular basis in the Bank’s working premises and adjoining areas, and the Bank shall provide necessary assistance in the initiatives taken by the Municipality/City Corporation to ensure the cleanliness of the village or city.
