The film based on the life of Bangabandhu and the birth of a nation ‘মুজিব–একটি জাতির রূপকার’ (Mujib –Shaper of a Nation) will be an extra ordinary document of history, said Information Minister and Joint General Secretary of Awami League Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
He made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at the censor certificate handing over of the film at the Hotel Intercontinental Ballroom in the capital on Saturday evening.
‘মুজিব–একটি জাতির রূপকার’ (Mujib – Shaper of a Nation); the biopic on the life of Bangabandhu, was jointly produced by the governments of Bangladesh and India.
Those who want to know about Bangabandhu; who want to know the history of the freedom struggle of Bengali nation, this movie can give them a lot, the Broadcasting Minister said, ‘The way Bangabandhu’s life, the Bengali’s freedom struggle and the tragic events of 1975 have been brought up in a three-hour period, that is the specialty of the film director, which made him different from the other directors. Thanks to Shyam Benegaljee.’
Referring to the fact that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vested the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Hasan Mahmud said, “I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister for giving sincere time to the production of this film despite the indescribable busy schedule. I have already had the privilege of watching the movie with the Prime Minister. Thanks again to director Shyam Benegal and the artists, artistes and behind-the-scenes crew for making such a wonderful movie.’
In his speech, the Information Secretary Humayun Kabir said, “The historical film produced by the film teams of the two countries is a unique example of mutual cooperation.”
Arifin Shubo, the name character of Bangabandhu said in his speech, “After playing the role of Bangabandhu, even if I don’t do any more acting or if I have to leave the world, I will have no regrets.”
Scriptwriter India’s Atul Tewari said in his speech, ‘We are grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for trusting us to make a film on her father’s life. We and the artists have tried our best to make this film the best.’
Actor Fazlur Rahman Babu, who portrayed the character of Khandokar Mushtaq, said, “If the audience even throws shoes at me for acting in this character that will be my medal.”
In the presence of the Minister on the stage, Censor Board Chairman Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md. Humayun Kabir and Vice Chairman Muhammad Saifullah handed over the censor certificate issued on July 31 to the Managing DDirector of FDC, the producer of the film on the Bangladesh side, Nuzhat Yasmin and the Indian script writer Atul Tewari.
The shooting of this biopic, made at the cost of 60% of Bangladesh and 40% of India, started on January 22, 2021 in Mumbai Film City, India and ended on December 18 in Bangladesh. Last year, the first poster of the film was released on March 17, 2022 on Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary, the second poster on May 3 and the trailer of the film was released at the Cannes Film Festival in France on May 19.
