The US has welcomed the decision made by the government of Bangladesh to repeal the Digital Security Act. Spokesman Matthew Miller expressed the note at a regular press conference at the State Department in Washington on Monday (August 7).
He said, we welcome the government’s long-standing commitment to reform that law and freedom of expression. We said earlier that the law was being used to arrest and silence critics of the government.
The United States is also aware that the new proposed ‘Cyber Security Act 2023’ should be of international standards in place of this law. Spokesman Matthew Miller added, “We would encourage the government to review and provide feedback on the draft legislation.”
