Bangladesh Railway has commissioned TUMAS – a Turkish Consulting and Constructing Company to work on electric traction from Narayanganj to Dhaka, Dhaka to Chattogram and Tongi to Joydebpur sections for rail movement using electricity.
The agreement was signed in the meeting room of the Railway Building on Sunday (July 16) afternoon. Chief Electrical Engineer (East) Md. Habibur Rahman on behalf of Bangladesh Railway in the presence of the Minister of Railways and Tumas Turki signed the contract on behalf of Ismail Haidarli Engineering Consulting and Constructing Company.
Meanwhile, Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan said that electricity will be used in railways to modernize the railway communication system. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives to make the Bangladesh railway system modern, up-to-date and environment-friendly. As part of that, today’s contract signing ceremony with Tumas Turkish Engineering Consulting and Constructing Company for electric railways is taking place.
He said, they are expected to complete the duties given to them through the agreement within the specified time. Gas and electricity are being used in railways in almost all countries of the world including Europe. It does not emit carbon, it is environment friendly. Therefore, for the first time, the initiative of using electricity has been taken in Bangladesh. Besides, we have direct rail communication with neighboring country India.
