The train that crashed in India’s Odisha may have had Bangladeshi passengers. Many Bangladeshis travel from Kolkata to Chennai by this train for medical treatment. Kolkata’s Bangladesh Sub-High Commission has launched a WhatsApp hotline (+919038353533) to inquire about any Bangladeshis involved in accidents.
The Deputy High Commission announced the hotline in a press release on Friday night.
At least 50 people were killed and more than four hundred people were injured in this accident. One train that suffered the accident was the Shalimar-Chennai Cormandel Express. It was going from Kolkata to Chennai.
According to the notification of the Deputy High Commission, Bangladeshi people usually travel in that train for treatment. Therefore, the Bangladesh Sub-High Commission in Kolkata is in contact with the Indian Railway Authority and Odisha State Government after the accident.
According to Al Jazeera news citing a top official of Balashore, at least 50 people were killed in the derailment of two passenger trains and a head-on collision with a freight train. Hundreds of people are still trapped in the damaged compartments.
Odisha State Fire Service Director General Sudhanshu Sarangi said that at least 400 people were injured in the incident.
Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena said the death toll in Balasore had risen to 207 and injured 900, Indian news agency ANI reported.
