Meta, the parent organization of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, announced the layoff of 10,000 workers in March this year. In the meantime, nearly 4,000 workers were fired in April. About 20 percent, or 490 workers, of the company’s international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, could fall into layoffs, informed Meta. And the Guardian reports that layoffs are particularly high in non-engineering sectors, such as content design and user experience researcher positions.
According to the Reuters report, the last round of layoffs has started especially in the business division.
Tech companies have been under severe economic pressure since late last year due to high inflation and declining digital advertising. As the company’s income decreased, they began thinking of layoffs to reduce operating costs. In November last year, Facebook’s parent company Meta became the first major technology company to announce layoffs of 11,000 workers.
Then in March of this year, Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Meta, announced the layoff of another 10,000 workers in the second phase.
