Residents of the US state of Montana have been banned from using TikTok on personal devices. The state’s governor, Greg Zayn Forte, signed an executive order Wednesday to impose the ban. The law will be implemented from January 1. As a result, Montana users will no longer find the TikTok app in any app store.
If any organization or person arranges to download the app, they will have to pay a fine of 10,000 dollars. However, users will not have to pay any penalty if they keep the app on their phones.
Montana is the first state in the US to ban the use of TikTok. In this regard, TikTok said in a statement, ‘This ban undermines the constitutional rights of Montana residents. Many people in the state use TikTok. We will approach the court to demand the cancellation of this law.’
Meanwhile, 5 TikTok content creators filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court to lift this court ban. The lawsuit was filed against Montana State Attorney General Austin Knudsen, who was behind the ban.
The number of TikTok users in the United States is 15 million. Most of the users are teenagers. The app is also quite popular among those in their 20s.
