The country’s oldest professional organization, Engineers Institution, Bangladesh (IEB) will present the roadmap for building Smart Bangladesh to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday. The 60th Convention of IEB was inaugurated this morning with the promise of ‘Innovative Engineering in the Fourth Industrial Revolution’.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the 5-day convention has also been organized. There are opening and closing sessions of the national seminar, reception of the family of martyred engineers, reception of foreign guests with 4 memorial speeches and colorful cultural programs.
IEB General Secretary Engineer Md. Shahadat Hossain Shiblu conveyed this message at the press conference organized on the 60th Convention of Engineers Institution in Ramna of the capital on Friday (12 May 2023). This press conference was presided over the IEB President Engineer Md. Nurul Huda.
The newly elected President Abdus Sabur, the newly elected General Secretary; Engineer S M Manjurul Haque Manju; Vice President Engineer Mohammad Hossain; Engineer Khandaker Manzoor Morshed; Engineer Md. Nuruzzaman; Assistant General Secretary Engineer Md Abul Kalam Hazari; Engineer Md. Ronak Ahsan; Engineer Prateek Kumar Ghosh; Engineer Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin; Engineer Amit Kumar Chakraborty; Engineer Md. Nasir Uddin; Engineer Md. Moazzem Hossain Bhuiyan; Engineer Meshbahuzaman Chandan; Chairman of IEB Dhaka Center Engineer Molla Mohammad Abul Hossain; Editor Engineer Khairul Basar; Vice President Engineer Md. Habib Ahmed Halim Murad and various centers of IEB and Leaders of different Centres and sub-centres were present.
Engineer Md. Shahadat Hossain Shiblu said that 8 necessary issues will be highlighted by the entire Bangladeshi engineering community to build a smart Bangladesh. The conference will demand that Warrant of Precedence be included in rank from Chief Engineer to Executive Engineer. Appointment of engineers in place of non-engineers in top posts in engineering organizations and creation of engineering wing in the Prime Minister’s Office and approval of ‘LGED’, ‘Water Resources Engineering’, ‘ICT’ and ‘Textiles’ cadres. Application will be made to open the closed recruitment in Telecommunication Cadre.
Also, the petitions addressed to the Prime Minister include- appointing persons with technical knowledge as PDs instead of appointing persons without technical knowledge or engineering experience as PDs; Bangladesh Civil Service’s ‘Senior Service Pool’ i.e. appointment to the post of Deputy Secretary of the Ministry from among various cadres through open competitive examination; It is proposed to give 2nd grade to the additional posts of Chief Engineer or equivalent and 3rd grade to the posts of Superintending Engineer or equivalent and to formulate ‘Employment Policy’ for engineers in private service.
In a written statement, Engineer Md. Shahadat Hossain Shibulu also said that the 60th convention organized for 5 days has started with various events. Yesterday (Thursday) May 11th at 5:00 PM Shaheed (martyred) Engineer Memorial Lecture was organized. Today (Friday) May 12 at 2.30 pm Engineer MA. Jabbar’s memorial lecture was held. State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest.
On the same day at four o’clock in the afternoon, the former minister of commerce Colonel Md. Farooq Khan will be present as the chief guest at the reception ceremony of the martyred engineer’s family. On May 13 (Saturday) at two o’clock, Dr. Engineer M.A. Rashid Memorial Lecture will be held. The Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources, Advocate SM Rezaul Karim will be present at the event as the chief guest. At four o’clock in the afternoon on the same day Dr. Engineer Jamilur Reza Chowdhury memorial lecture program has been scheduled. Prime Minister’s economic affairs advisor Dr. Mosiur Rahman will be present as the chief guest.
The national seminar titled ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution Preparedness in the Society and Industry’ will be inaugurated on Sunday, May 14 at 9 am. The National Seminar will be inaugurated by the Deputy Leader of the National Assembly, Matia Chowdhury. Planning Minister M. A. mannan will be present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the National Seminar scheduled on Monday, May 15 at 02:00 pm.
The closing ceremony of the convention will be held on Monday at 3:30 pm. The Opposition Leader Rowshan Ershad will be present as the chief guest.
